A continual feature of my work has been my concern with space in my paintings and I am currently interested in playing with material and colour, making a space where people can travel into. One of main issues of my paintings has been to develop my use of colours. I have recently been using a more complex palette. Expanding and challenging the use of my colour palette in my landscape painting has allowed me to explore more curious and interesting visual spaces. It has also helped me open up new possibilities beyond image, as well as to transport the viewer to a different kind of space that feels both ordinary and unfamiliar.
I am also interested in utilizing more traditional methods of painting and bringing them into a contemporary setting. Recently I have drawn inspiration from Korean traditional watercolours. I am seeking to bring in influences from my Korean heritage without it becoming narrative or too like a Korean landscape painting. I have attempted to find a balance between the perspective of Korean art and the perspective of western art in my painting. I would also like to evoke moods in the audience, such as feelings of displacement and loneliness.
